Less than a month after being sacked by Flamengo, Filipe Luís is in Europe meeting agent Jorge Mendes and shaping his next step. He plans to return after the World Cup, aiming to work in Europe.
Marca reports he rejected América and Monterrey, and that Cruzeiro sounded him out to replace Tite, but he signalled a preference for Europe.
He has been studying, exploring staff options and staying current. On Saturday he watched Flamengo beat PSG in the Under-12 World Cup semi-final in Madrid.
He already holds CBF A and B licences plus the PRO, and is now pursuing the UEFA Pro Licence to coach in Europe.
Before travelling, he visited his children’s school in Barra da Tijuca and joined a kickabout. He has also been taking son Tiago, 12, to and from Ninho do Urubu, and the club published his name on the CBF BID this month.
He has also taken up padel alongside former team-mate Rodrigo Caio.
His coaching career began at Flamengo, winning the 2024 Copa Rio with the under-17s, then the under-20 world title in June. Promoted on 30 September 2024, he was dismissed on 3 March after 101 games and a 69.9% record, 63 wins, 23 draws and 15 defeats. He left tied as the club’s second most successful coach with five trophies, 2024 Copa do Brasil, 2025 Supercopa, Carioca, Libertadores and Brasileirão.
