Two months after leaving Flamengo, Filipe Luís has moved close to Monaco, with the European club intending to agree a contract running to 2028.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Monaco turned to the former full-back after talks with Bayer Leverkusen cooled, and Brazilian director Thiago Scuro has been pivotal in negotiations.
Any agreement would indicate Monaco plan to dismiss Belgian coach Sébastien Pocognoli after missing out on Champions League qualification. The 38-year-old arrived last August and recorded 16 wins in 38 matches.
After retiring at the end of 2023, Filipe Luís began coaching Flamengo’s under-17s in 2024. He then stepped up to the under-20s and won the age-group Club World Cup against Olympiacos.
He took charge of the first team late in 2024 and won the Copa do Brasil. In 2025 he delivered both the Libertadores and the Brasileirão, but he was dismissed in March of the following year for poor results.
With Leonardo Jardim on the touchline, Flamengo face Coritiba at the Maracanã on Saturday 30 from 16:00 Brasília time in the 18th round of the league.
