The truth is there is no like-for-like replacement for Salah.
And on top of this Liverpool don't have to just replace Salah alone this summer. Hughes will have to address the absence of Luis Diaz which has left lacking natural width and traditional wingers in wide areas.
Salah or Cody Gakpo are more inside forwards rather than wingers.
That imbalance has been evident in attack. At times, Liverpool have looked predictable and easier to defend against, lacking a genuine winger capable of holding width and consistently beating opponents one-on-one.
Resolving this issue by bringing in a right-sided attacker with a different profile to Salah will be the club’s top priority, and on top of that Liverpool will have to sign a left-winger as well.
According to Fichajes via Fussball Daten Liverpool have identified Bradley Barcola as the top candidate, and will be looking to line up a move.
This is finally an astute choice.
Barcola is the only player capable of living up to Salah's shoes.
Like Salah, he thrives in one-v-one situations, using pace and close control to isolate defenders and create space in dangerous areas. He’s direct, fearless, and constantly looks to attack, traits that are essential in Liverpool’s high-intensity system.
What makes him an especially strong fit is his movement. Barcola is intelligent off the ball, timing his runs into the box and attacking gaps behind defensive lines, much like Salah has done so effectively for years. While he typically operates from the left, his skill set translates well to the right flank, where Liverpool’s system demands inverted forwards who can cut inside and threaten goal.
He’s also developing end product, which is crucial. At a young age, he’s already showing composure in the final third, with the potential to become a consistent match-winner.
