Fire TV Stick owners have been encouraged to return old devices in order for a discount amid the police's crackdown on illegal streaming devices
Amazon Fire Stick owners have been encouraged to trade in their old models by the end of this week in exchange for a discounted price on Amazon's newest Fire Stick product amid a fresh crackdown on illegal streaming devices.
The usage of illegal Fire Sticks for streaming of various sporting events has grown in recent times, prompting the authorities to clamp down on the issue.
Late last month, reports revealed Amazon's plan to launch a ban on illegal streaming apps downloaded onto Amazon Fire Stick devices. These apps were not available on Amazon's Appstore, instead downloaded by individuals involved in jailbreaking Fire Sticks in order for buyers to watch live sporting events and an array of movies and TV programmes at a significantly discounted price.
In November 2024, a man from Liverpool received a three-year jail term for both selling and using illegal Fire Sticks, and the authorities have conducted a nationwide crackdown of 15 areas across England and Wales.
Amazon have also recently released its new Fire TV Stick Select, which is said to not support IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) services. This implementation will increase the difficulty of streaming content without a valid subscription in a fresh effort to deter jailbreakers.
Amid the release of Amazon's latest Fire Stick product, the Fire TV Stick 4K, which comes ahead of Black Friday, potential customers have been urged to exchange their old devices for a discounted price.

The Fire TV Stick 4K was originally priced on Amazon at £59.99. However, Amazon's Black Friday sale has brought the price down by a whopping 58 percent, and a further discount of 20 per cent can be acquired by trading in old models.
This would equate to a total saving of 67 percent, with an exchange enabling buyers to purchase the new Fire TV Stick 4K for just £19.99.
However, the deal expiries on Monday, December 1. The trade-in process can take up to three days, and any shoppers interested in this deal will have to send off their old devices to cash in by the end of this week.
In order to do so, buyers will need to access the Amazon Trade-in program and answer questions on the quality and condition of their item before receiving an offer for the product, which will include both a gift card and the promotional discount. After shipping the item, buyers can then use that gift card and promotional discount to purchase a new device.
As aforementioned, Amazon's release of the Fire TV Stick 4K comes amid a significant police crackdown on 15 different areas throughout England and Wales.
The crackdown has taken place throughout the South of England in areas such as London, Kent and Sussex, into the Midlands across Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and the East and West Midlands, too.

Areas in the North of England, such as Northumbria, North Yorkshire and the North East and North West have also been targeted, along with Norfolk and South Wales.
There is now little secret of just how serious the issue of jailbreaking and illegal streaming is being treated by the authorities, whether you are 'chipping' Amazon Fire Stick devices with illegal software or simply purchasing jailbroken devices to watch.
