A new Leeds United mural has been unveiled in Beeston, honouring Howard Wilkinson and the 1992 champions.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the piece at the South Leeds Conservative Club was commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters' Trust, designed by Kieran Bradshaw of Word on the Walls, and painted by local artist Karl Canning. Sponsorship came from the Leeds United Supporters Club of Scandinavia and the venue.

The work salutes Sergeant Wilko and the side that won the final Football League First Division title. Wilkinson was inducted into the National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame last year.

Canning, a Beeston-born Whites fan, said it was his first time working from scaffolding. He described nerves ahead of the reveal but felt the piece landed as intended without needing changes.

The 44-year-old has created several murals in the area, including a Dewsbury Road piece aimed at inspiring local children, and is part of the LS11 street art group.

He says murals lift people’s moods at a time when the neighbourhood faces crime, other issues and neglected spaces with potholes. His group is working with community organisations to co-design brighter spaces that bring colour and make a positive impact.
