West Ham’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace confirmed the Premier League’s first relegation and handed Leeds United a modest boost in their survival fight.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the point represented a small step forward for the Hammers.

Leeds ended the weekend eight points clear of the relegation zone following Saturday’s 3-0 home win against Wolves, while third-bottom Tottenham conceded a late equaliser in a 2-2 home draw with Brighton.

That victory had taken United seven points above fourth-bottom West Ham, who then travelled to Crystal Palace on Monday for their game in hand.

The visitors largely dictated play, with Jarrod Bowen a persistent threat, but Palace finished the stronger and it ended 0-0.

The point leaves Spurs two points shy of safety. It also relegates Wolves, whose maximum possible tally is now 33, one fewer than West Ham’s current 33.
