Bundesliga Matchday 4 delivered everything from Bayern Munich’s seven-goal demolition of Union Berlin to Werder Bremen’s remarkable late comeback against FC Augsburg. Borussia Dortmund maintained their perfect start, while Bayer Leverkusen produced an impressive performance against RB Leipzig and SC Freiburg remained unbeaten after their trip to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Here are five players who stood out across the weekend.

Michael Olise – Bayern Munich

There was little doubt about the outstanding individual performance of Matchday 4. Michael Olise scored his first Bayern hat-trick and also provided an assist as Vincent Kompany’s side demolished Union Berlin 7-0 at the Allianz Arena.

Olise scored shortly before half-time before adding two more goals within four minutes in the second half. He also created Harry Kane’s second goal, giving him four direct goal contributions. Kane made history by reaching 100 Bundesliga goals in only 98 appearances, but Olise was the main protagonist of Bayern’s spectacular evening.

Marco Grüll – Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen looked destined for defeat when they trailed Augsburg 2-0 after 58 minutes. Marco Grüll changed everything.

The Austrian scored in the 66th minute to begin the comeback, was involved in the build-up to Niclas Füllkrug’s equaliser and then assisted Mitchell Weiser’s dramatic winner in the third minute of stoppage time. Bundesliga.com credited Grüll with involvement in all three Bremen goals.

For Daniel Thioune’s side, it was precisely the type of performance needed from Grüll as Bremen attempt to establish themselves further away from another relegation battle.

Derry Scherhant – Freiburg

Derry Scherhant played a decisive role in maintaining Freiburg’s unbeaten start to the season during their 2-2 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt.

With Freiburg trailing 1-0, Scherhant drove into the penalty area and finished into the bottom corner to equalise. Frankfurt quickly restored their advantage through Jonathan Burkardt, but Scherhant responded again immediately after half-time, creating Yuito Suzuki’s second equaliser with a cross from the left.

A goal and an assist away from home represented another impressive performance from a player whose early-season form has now earned him recognition at international level.

Miguel Gutiérrez – Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig featured an outstanding all-round contribution from Miguel Gutiérrez.

The Spanish defender created the opening goal with a precise delivery for Patrik Schick, who continued his remarkable start by scoring for the fourth consecutive Bundesliga match. Gutiérrez then took responsibility himself after the break, scoring Leverkusen’s second with a long-range strike.

One goal and one assist from left-back made Gutiérrez one of Matchday 4’s most productive performers and helped Leverkusen secure an important victory against direct European rivals.

Maximilian Beier – Borussia Dortmund

Maximilian Beier did not produce the statistical numbers of Olise or Grüll, but his contribution was just as valuable.

Borussia Dortmund’s trip to Stuttgart remained goalless until the 70th minute, when substitute Jobe Bellingham created the opportunity for Beier to score the only goal of the match. Dortmund protected that advantage to secure a 1-0 victory and move onto a perfect 12 points from their opening four Bundesliga games.

Beier’s decisive intervention was another example of Dortmund finding different ways to win under Niko Kovač. When a difficult away match required one moment of quality, the 23-year-old delivered it.

Matchday 4 produced several candidates for this list, but Olise, Grüll, Scherhant, Gutiérrez and Beier each directly influenced the outcome of their respective games. From individual brilliance in Munich to a late comeback in Bremen and a match-winning goal in Stuttgart, all five left their mark on another eventful Bundesliga weekend.
