Sunderland visit Everton this weekend, a meeting steeped in shared history. Here are five players to have represented both clubs.

According to Sunderland Echo, Jordan Pickford stands out, the England number one who made 35 appearances for Sunderland before joining Everton in 2017. He has since played more than 350 games and could head to a third World Cup this summer.

Aiden McGeady arrived at Everton from Spartak Moscow in January 2014, then joined Sunderland for £250,000 under Simon Grayson after a season together at Preston. He stayed through the drop to League One and helped win promotion in 2021-22 before moving to Hibernian.

Kevin Kilbane signed in 1999 from West Brom, helped Sunderland to back-to-back seventh-place finishes, then departed after relations with fans soured. He spent three years at Everton, helping secure 2004-05 Champions League qualification before joining Wigan.

Gavin McCann came through Everton’s academy and debuted in 1997, then switched to Sunderland in 1998 and featured in the 1999 promotion. He earned an England cap in 2001 and left for Aston Villa after relegation in 2002-03.

Jack Rodwell emerged at Everton before a £12 million switch to Manchester City, then joined Sunderland for £10 million. He scored on his home debut against Manchester United but made only 76 appearances, and his deal was terminated after relegation to League One. Chris Coleman said he had refused to play, a claim Rodwell denied.
