Five years on: where are Palmeiras’ Libertadores champions now 🏆

Five years ago, Palmeiras won their second Libertadores title by defeating Santos 1-0 at Maracanã, with a goal by Breno Lopes. The competition marked the first title for Abel Ferreira as the coach of the Alviverde.

With this in mind, NOSSO PALESTRA decided to find out where all the champions of America for the Verdão are now. In the current squad, only one member remains, as Raphael Veiga is in advanced negotiations with América, from Mexico.

See where the champions for Palmeiras are now

Jailson – Retired and playing in the amateur leagues of São Paulo.
Weverton – An absolute starter in the victory, was transferred to Grêmio at the beginning of the current season.
Marcos Rocha – Important in the victory, was transferred to Grêmio in the middle of the 2025 season.
Mayke – Always important and alternating with Rocha as a starter, was transferred to Santos in the middle of the 2025 season.
Matías Viña – After being sold to Europe, he returned to Brazilian football to play for Flamengo. Today, he is on loan to River Plate.
Alan Empereur – Returned to Hellas Verona after his loan at Palmeiras and continued his career in Brazil. Today, he plays for Cuiabá.
Benjamín Kuscevic – The Chilean never took off at Palmeiras, was sold to Coritiba, but now plays for Fortaleza, being targeted by other Brazilian clubs.
Emerson Santos – Important in the campaign, today he plays for América-MG.
Luan – A winner with the Palmeiras jersey and a starter in the victory, was transferred to Toluca, Mexico.
Gustavo Gómez – One of the defensive pillars since that victory, remains an absolute starter and team captain.
Felipe Melo – Captain in that campaign, retired from the fields. After passing through Fluminense, he hung up his boots.
Zé Rafael – An important piece for several seasons, was recently transferred to Santos.
Danilo – Initiator of the play for the title goal, was transferred to Nottingham Forest, but returned to Brazilian football to play for Botafogo.
Patrick de Paula – After leaving Verdão, he couldn't continue his career. He belongs to Botafogo and is on loan to Remo.
Gabriel Menino – After ups and downs at the club, was transferred to Atlético-MG in 2025. Today, he is on loan to Santos.
Lucas Lima – After a lackluster stint, moved through other clubs and now plays for Goiás.
Gustavo Scarpa – Best player of the Brasileirão 2022, returned to Brazilian football in 2024 and now plays for Atlético-MG.
Raphael Veiga – Would be one of the remaining champions, but is in advanced negotiations with América from Mexico.
Rony – Considered an idol by many, today he plays for Atlético-MG, but with advanced negotiations to join Santos for the 2026 season.
Willian Bigode – One of the most beloved by fans, today he plays for América-MG.
Luiz Adriano – Had a good phase at Verdão, but ended his professional career after discreet stints at clubs in Brazil and abroad.
Breno Lopes – Scorer of the title goal, was transferred to Fortaleza and after the team's relegation, sold to Coritiba.

In searching for the champions, we only used those listed for the grand final at Maracanã. During the campaign, other players took the field.

Restructuring

After the season, Palmeiras entered a restructuring process of the American champion squad, which would become consecutive champions in the 2021 season, where the club became three-time Libertadores champions.

This restructuring was intensified in 2022 and 2025, where a large number of these athletes left the club for the arrival of new ones, who are still trying to make their mark in the history of the country's greatest club: Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras.
