Flaco López hailed by Scaloni as a very complete player | OneFootball

Flaco López, Palmeiras’ leading scorer this season, hit his first Argentina goal in a 4-0 friendly win over Bolivia in Buenos Aires and drew praise from Lionel Scaloni. According to Globo.com, the coach said the forward offers pressing, set-piece value and positional flexibility.

López came on in the second half on Wednesday and added the fourth in Argentina’s opening fixture of the international window. The team face Burkina Faso on Saturday, then Benin on Tuesday.

Scaloni described him as a very complete player who creates chances, contributes on set pieces and can play as a first or second striker, or on the right as a false winger. He also highlighted the striker’s exemplary behaviour.

López said he is proud to represent the national team and tries to make the most of every opportunity, adding that the first goal felt like a gift. He dedicated it to his family, his mother and the people of San Lorenzo, where he was born.

First called up in August 2025 for 2026 World Cup qualifying, López featured twice at the finals and assisted Julián Álvarez against Switzerland in the quarter-final. He is viewed as part of Argentina’s renewal following Lionel Messi’s decision to retire, with Messi’s farewell set for the Benin match on the 6th.
