Flaco López has started 2026 as Palmeiras’ chief goal threat, carrying over his strong finish to last season and recent Argentina call-ups. He has quickly become the Verdão’s headline act.
Rotation under Abel Ferreira has seen him sit out only once so far. According to Globo.com, he has five appearances and six goal involvements, already outstripping his number of games.
Across those outings he has played 380 minutes, less than five full matches. The start underscores his status as a leading option to drive Palmeiras back towards trophies after the first trophyless year of the Abel era.
The World Cup is a powerful incentive. Called up by Lionel Scaloni last year, he has said one of his main objectives is to reach the tournament with a strong chance of selection. With heavy competition in Argentina’s attack, he will have to prove his case in every Palmeiras game.
He recorded career-best figures last year, with 64 games, 25 goals and six assists, and already has half that assist tally in 2026. On Sunday at 20:30 Brasília time, against Botafogo-SP in the Paulistão, he can push his numbers higher.
