Flamengo have struck a partnership with the Municipality of Maricá for the club’s women’s football, with the Flamengo Maricá project approved by the Deliberative Council on Tuesday at Gávea. According to Globo.com, the sponsorship would bring R$ 10 million a year.
Club president Bap said the sum represents more than half of the women’s team’s annual costs, which would make the department self-sustaining and profitable. The project covers all age groups, with particular focus on strengthening the pathway.
The contract will be signed directly with the municipality via the Sports Secretariat and also includes infrastructure. Plans presented include a future 30,000-capacity stadium.
Maricá’s counterparts include official sponsor status, an official launch, matches in the city when rules allow, naming rights as Flamengo Maricá, kit and staff branding across match, training and travel, visibility at the training centre and on backdrops, plus two pitchside boards.
On the social front, the city will run girls’ development hubs for ages 10 to 17, stage two trials in Maricá, train state-school teachers using Flamengo’s women’s methodology, and organise a competition between the hubs. The tie-up also aims to promote Maricá’s image and a socio-educational legacy around the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Flamengo have not yet commented via official channels. The move follows last October’s budget rework in the women’s game, which cut spending and saw coach Rosana Augusto depart, plus a goal for more than 90% homegrown professionals by 2028/29.
