Flamengo have trimmed Palmeiras’ lead at the top and, after a 2-0 win over Vitória on Sunday, now depend only on themselves in the Brasileirão title race.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo have a game in hand and a head-to-head with Abel Ferreira’s side in the 36th round at Nubank Parque.

If they win both of those matches, Flamengo would draw level on points with Palmeiras, leaving tiebreakers to decide first place. Goal difference comes first and is finely balanced, Flamengo are +21 and Palmeiras +22.

Flamengo’s game in hand stems from a fourth-round match against Mirassol that was postponed while the club focused on the Recopa Sudamericana decider against Lanús of Argentina. The fixture is yet to be rescheduled.

Palmeiras drew with Internacional on Sunday to reach 48 points. Flamengo have 42 and a game in hand.

In the reverse fixture at the Maracanã, the São Paulo club won 3-0, with goals from Flaco López, Allan and Paulinho.

Flamengo now park the league and turn to the Libertadores, hosting Cruzeiro at the Maracanã on Wednesday 12 at 21:30 Brasília time in the first leg of the last 16.
