Flamengo could bank a multi-million sum if they reach the Copa Libertadores semi-finals. According to Coluna Do Fla, Conmebol pays $2.3 million to each semi-finalist, around R$ 11.84 million.
They host Independiente del Valle at the Maracanã at 21:30 Brasília time on Thursday 17 in the quarter-final second leg. Having won the first leg 2-0, Flamengo can afford a one-goal defeat and still progress, while a level aggregate would take it to penalties.
Flamengo went unbeaten in the group stage with five wins, topping Group H under Leonardo Jardim. Each victory was worth $340,000, totalling $1.7 million, about R$ 8.7 million. The only slip was a draw with Estudiantes in round three.
Counting participation, group-stage wins and subsequent progress, their take so far stands at roughly $7.95 million, near R$ 40 million. That figure could increase significantly as the tournament advances.
If they finish runners-up, the total would rise to almost $15 million, around R$ 77 million. A title would push it to approximately $33 million, about R$ 169 million. The winners of Flamengo versus Independiente del Valle will face Estudiantes in the semi-final, with Palmeiras or Fluminense potential opponents in a final.
