Flamengo mourns death of Paulo Angioni, former club executive, aged 80 | OneFootball

Former Flamengo executive Paulo Angioni has died in the early hours of Saturday, aged 80. He had been receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer since early September in Rio de Janeiro, and the club has paid tribute.

The club said in a statement that it deeply mourns Angioni, highlighting his more than four decades in football and his pioneering work as a director. It noted his spells at major Brazilian clubs and involvement with the national team.

Angioni began his career in the early 1980s, leaving Municipal, in Tijuca, to join Vasco. That move started a path that would span more than four decades in the Brazilian game.

Across his career he worked at Flamengo, Palmeiras, Corinthians, Bahia, Olaria and Fluminense. He also served the CBF as Brazil’s squad supervisor in 1989 and 1990.

At Flamengo he was director of football between 1993 and 1997. His legacy helped cement the director’s role as a central pillar within club structures, and many professionals credit his influence on the national game.
