Flamengo have rejected a €10m, R$ 60m at current rates, offer from Grupo City for João Victor, the Brazil Under-20 captain.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the 19-year-old centre-back is highly regarded at the club and the proposal was turned down in recent days.

Flamengo currently have four senior centre-backs, Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira, Danilo and Vitão. Against Cruzeiro last time out, João Victor was included because one centre-back was rested and the former Internacional defender is in the medical department.

With Danilo yet to decide on his future for 2027, the club do not want to sanction João Victor’s exit. They also believe he could become an important option in the near future.

It is Grupo City’s second approach for him, after a slightly lower bid in July that was also rejected.

João Victor has 14 senior appearances, four in 2026. His most recent first-team outing came in late May, when Danilo and Léo Pereira were with Brazil and Léo Ortiz went off early against Coritiba. He came on and helped Flamengo win 3-0 at the Maracanã.

Since the World Cup he has been on the bench for three Brasileirão games, Chapecoense, São Paulo and Cruzeiro. With Vitão still recovering, he has a good chance of being involved in Sunday’s clássico on the 30th against Botafogo.

He was criticised for errors against Fluminense and Sport last year, but this season has shown greater assurance in limited chances. He could feature at next year’s Under-20 World Cup if Brazil qualify, and a strong tournament could raise his value beyond €10m.
