Flamengo have scheduled a media briefing with Joaquín Freitas, Léo Ortiz and Saúl after Thursday training, during the FIFA international break that pauses Brazilian football until 6 October.

Freitas, a 19-year-old Argentine, joined from River Plate in early September. According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo paid 7 million euros for 80% of his economic rights. He has signed until 2031 and wears the number 30 shirt.

Presented on 4 September, he described himself as an intense player. He debuted in the 1-0 win at Remo in Belém in the 26th round of the Brasileirão, and has been viewed as immediate cover for Pedro.

Ortiz suffered a right thigh muscle injury on 30 May against Coritiba, missed the mid-season programme, then returned to re-establish himself as a starter.

After the 1-1 draw with Independiente del Valle on 17 September, he sharply criticised the Maracanã pitch, though the result secured a Libertadores semi-final place. During the break, staff planned extra rest for Ortiz, as well as Rossi, Léo Pereira and Jorginho.

Saúl regained a starting berth in the 2-1 win over Red Bull Bragantino on 20 September, ending about four months without opening a match. He later spoke of frustration over limited chances. In 2026 he has 13 appearances, three starts, and stayed despite a loan offer from América, with a deal running to December 2028.

Flamengo return on Thursday 8 at 19:30 Brasília time against Santos at Vila Belmiro, in the 29th round of the league. They led before the pause with 60 points, three clear of Palmeiras.
