Léo Ortiz and Royal enjoy fan day as Dallas Cowboys train at Flamengo base | OneFootball

Rio de Janeiro is set to host its first American football game on Sunday at the Maracanã, Dallas Cowboys v Baltimore Ravens. Léo Ortiz and Royal, Flamengo’s centre-back and right-back, enjoyed a fan’s day by attending the Cowboys’ session at the club’s training ground. According to Globo.com, the visit formed part of wider NFL activities in the city.

The Cowboys trained at Ninho do Urubu on Friday, with the duo watching from close quarters. Ortiz also joined a New England Patriots activation in Leme earlier in the week, the team he supports.

Ortiz described meeting players he follows as a surreal experience at Flamengo. He praised their humility, said he had fulfilled a dream, and plans to hang the shirts at home as his collection grows.

The defender even took to the 2025 NFL Draft stage to announce the Patriots’ fourth-round selection, defensive tackle Joshua Farmer, 137th overall. Ortiz and Emerson Royal also exchanged shirts with Dak Prescott, Von Miller and CeeDee Lamb.

Flamengo’s medical staff are involved in the NFL’s visit too. Cardiologist Luiz Macedo is coordinating the league’s medical unit, while orthopaedist Fernando Sassaki is the doctor assigned to the Cowboys. The franchises’ own medics are present but do not hold licences to practise in Brazil.
