Flamengo target Argentine market for attacking reinforcements before Libertadores deadline | OneFootball

Flamengo have moved to reinforce their attack after the departures of Gonzalo Plata to Dynamo Moscow and Wallace Yan to Bragantino. The board are prioritising young options in Argentina, with a particular need to replace the Ecuadorian who started under Leonardo Jardim.

TyC Sports reports that River Plate forward Joaquín Freitas, 19, is among the targets and is already with the first team. Flamengo have enquired about potential terms and pricing.

Freitas featured regularly for Eduardo Coudet, who was dismissed this week after River’s Sudamericana exit. He has played 30 matches this season, with one goal and two assists. Despite the arrivals of Ángel Correa, Borré and Lucas Beltrán, River do not intend to make any deal easy, and his contract runs to the end of 2028.

Other Argentine-based options remain under wraps. Flamengo must register additions by 4 September for the Libertadores quarter-finals against Independiente del Valle, the reigning champions of Ecuador and on a 16‑match winning run. Brazil’s transfer window remains open until 11 September, but Conmebol’s list deadline comes earlier.

Since early 2024, the hierarchy have made two scout-led additions, forward Juninho, who moved on to Pumas after a brief spell, and goalkeeper Andrew from Gil Vicente, now back-up to Rossi. In 2025, they came close to signing Mikey Johnston from West Bromwich, with travel booked for medicals, but withdrew after a negative fan reaction.
