Flamengo move close to Anthony Valencia and Joaquín Freitas deals | OneFootball

Flamengo have stepped up their recruitment, moving close to their first signings of this window with forwards Anthony Valencia of Royal Antwerp and Joaquín Freitas of River Plate, according to Globo.com. The push follows recent player sales and failed talks.

Valencia’s move is further along and could be agreed by Monday. He would replace Plata, sold to Dynamo Moscow in recent days. He was left out of Antwerp’s 4-1 defeat at STVV on Sunday.

Talks are around €5 million for 100% of his rights, with Antwerp to retain 15% of any future profit, Deco SRN first reported.

Freitas’ switch is also advanced but hinges on River’s share of a future deal. The 19-year-old’s transfer is valued at around US$ 17 million.

Used recently by the now-dismissed Eduardo Coudet on the right, Freitas has looked better as a second striker. He has been called up by Argentina for 2026 World Cup warm-up friendlies, TYC Sports first reported.

Valencia, 23, came through Independiente del Valle and has been called up by Ecuador for the 2026 World Cup. He has 13 goals and seven assists for Antwerp this season. Freitas has 30 appearances, with one goal and two assists, and started at Acassuso.

Flamengo are working against the clock. Brazil’s window runs until 11 September, but Conmebol’s registration deadline for Libertadores quarter-finals is on the 4th. Leonardo Jardim’s side face Independiente del Valle, Ecuador’s reigning champions who have won 16 straight.
