Flamengo have moved to appoint Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim after dismissing Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday.
UOL reports that Jardim returned to Brazil on Monday and held talks with the club’s hierarchy that afternoon.
Jardim is among Flamengo’s priorities and had stayed top of the list even while Filipe Luís was in post. The board, led by Boto, rate the Portuguese highly.
The club previously consulted Jardim during renewal talks with Filipe Luís. He was open to discussions, but Flamengo finalised that extension and paused contact with the Portuguese at the time.
In 2025, Jardim led Cruzeiro in 55 matches, posting 25 wins, 18 draws and 12 defeats. His stint finished with a 56% return.
