Flamengo will learn their Copa Libertadores quarter-final opponents on Tuesday 25 when Independiente del Valle host Deportes Tolima in Quito, protecting a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.
According to Coluna Do Fla, kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time at Estádio Banco Guayaquil, and the winners will face Flamengo in the last eight.
For Flamengo, Del Valle would mean the altitude of Quito, 2,850 metres above sea level. The Ecuadorian side are in superb form, already domestic champions with six rounds to spare, and on a 15-match winning streak in all competitions.
Travel favours Quito, about 6,605 kilometres away, versus 8,000 to Ibagué plus a four-hour bus ride. Del Valle have a smaller fanbase and limited Libertadores pedigree, their best being runners-up a decade ago.
If Tolima go through, the route is awkward, via Bogotá then four hours by road. They have posted big home wins in this Libertadores, 3-0 against Nacional (URU) and 3-0 against Coquimbo Unido (CHI). Colombian sides often play with freedom, bordering on reckless.
On the plus side for Flamengo, Ibagué is at 1,285 metres, a height unlikely to affect visitors. Tolima scraped through in second with only eight points, from two wins, two draws and two defeats, and recent domestic results have been modest.
The quarter-finals are set for 8 and 10 September, with returns between 15 and 17 September. Flamengo will play the first leg away, then decide at the Maracanã. The Quito match will stream on Paramount Plus.
