Flamengo have rejected an approach from América (MEX) to loan Saúl through to June 2027. The second transfer window of 2026 closed on Friday 11.

The Mexican side had proposed a nine-month deal, but neither Flamengo nor the Spaniard were interested, according to Coluna Do Fla.

Saúl wants more chances under Leonardo Jardim, so he has chosen to stay and compete for minutes despite strong competition in his role.

He joined Flamengo in July 2025 on a free after ending his contract with Atlético de Madrid (ESP). He has made 35 appearances with three assists, and featured in Brasileirão and Libertadores title wins.

Since Jardim took charge in March this year, Saúl has played 12 matches, including a friendly with River Plate (ARG) during the mid-season camp in Portugal.

His deal runs to December 2028, aligning with his aim to earn more opportunities at the club. Flamengo face Corinthians on Sunday 13 in the 27th round of the Brasileirão, kick-off 17:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
