Flamengo are close to bringing back Lucas Paquetá in a €41 million deal.
Speaking on TNT Sports on Tuesday, a journalist argued that mid-range signings, roughly €10 to €15 million or around R$ 100 million, no longer suit the club.
He said Flamengo already have that calibre, which is why they won the Brasileirão and the Libertadores and held their own with PSG.
To take another step, he added, the focus should be on €40 million bracket names such as Lucas Paquetá and Gabriel Jesus.
Flamengo’s record buy remains Samuel Lino, signed from Atlético de Madrid midway through last year for €22 million, so €41 million would be almost double.
Only minor details are left, with talks ongoing with West Ham over the 2026 instalment. The fee is split into five payments through 2028, and there is an expectation it will be finalised this week.
