Despite a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Zamalek, a resilient spirit has become the key takeaway for Kaizer Chiefs, according to striker Flavio da Silva. The CAF Confederation Cup clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium saw Amakhosi stare down an early deficit, conceding in just the third minute, but they demonstrated grit to claw back an equalizer deep into stoppage time.

This result leaves the South African side positioned third in their group, but the performance injected a dose of belief. Coming on as a second-half substitute, Flavio da Silva sensed a pivotal shift in the team's attitude under the Polokwane lights.

“I saw a different mentally today, you know. I think the winning mentally helped us to come back into the game,” he observed.

The Guinea-Bissau international didn't shy away from the immense challenges posed by continental football, acknowledging the difficulty of their task. “It’s always a different game, the recovery and all that, and to play outside [of the country]. Today was a tough game. We knew it was going to be a tough game and we conceded early.”

For da Silva, his personal role is defined by unwavering commitment, regardless of the number of minutes on the pitch. His focus remains squarely on the collective ambition of the team. “For me, the most important, as I always say, it’s the team. Playing 10 minutes or five minutes, my commitment is always the same for the team. If I can have a goal or an assist, yeah, I always fight for that,” he stated.

This team-first ethos is coupled with a firm belief in their capabilities. When asked about Chiefs' chances of progressing to the knockout stages, his response was one of clear conviction: “Of course. Everybody believes we can do it. Yes, of course, that’s our ambition.”
