The serious knee injury sustained by Andreas Christensen has sparked concerns at FC Barcelona, compelling the club to consider entering the market for reinforcements in January.
As already reported, the Catalans intend to formalise the long-term absence of Christensen before the end of 2026 with La Liga, opening the door for them to use 80% of his salary to sign and register a new player.
Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona are have decided to sign a central defender in January, and a meeting between Deco and head coach Hansi Flick is scheduled for next week to define the most suitable candidate.
The plan is to process the long-term injury status of Christensen before the end of the year and then assess the market.

Marcos Senesi of AFC Bournemouth, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is seen as a market opportunity that the Blaugrana are looking at.
But the list also includes players such as Nathan Ake, who could leave Manchester City on loan, having struggled for minutes under Pep Guardiola this season. The Dutchman’s services have already been offered to Barça.
In addition to that, Deco has also made enquiries about two young players who could be available on loan with an option to buy.
The meeting between the manager and the sporting director will be key in deciding which way the Catalans lean.
But, as things stand, everything suggests that a new defender is likely to arrive at Barcelona in the upcoming January transfer window.
