At FC Bayern, transfer planning for new signings this summer is essentially complete. Nevertheless, club officials are keeping an eye on the market for exciting opportunities. One such opportunity could now arise in Barcelona.
That’s because there have been some changes in the Catalans’ defensive hierarchy—to the detriment of Jules Koundé. He has fallen behind Eric Garcia in the defensive pecking order; Garcia was also in the starting lineup for Flick’s team in their 5-0 season opener on the road against FC Elche.
The coach is said to have already informed Koundé that he is no longer the first choice. According to Radio Catalunya, Barça would also be willing to let the player go in order to generate additional revenue, which could then be reinvested.
This could be of interest to FC Bayern because it might offer the chance to sign a French national team player for less than his actual market value. And in recent months, the record champions have repeatedly been considered one of the candidates to sign Koundé.

The big advantage is that Koundé can play both as a right back and in central defense. Over the course of the year, Bayern Munich has also been linked several times with Givairo Read, a right back from Feyenoord,
But even if Koundé were to hit the market at a bargain price, it doesn’t currently look as though Bayern Munich will make another move. Minjae Kim is staying despite some inquiries, and Hiroko Ito isn’t set to leave either.
This means that only a long-term injury could likely affect the record champions’ plans. In Koundé’s case, FC Barcelona will therefore most likely have to deal with other clubs that might be interested.
