Jamal Musiala is currently the talk of the town. After the FC Bayern attacking player collapsed on the field twice, he revealed publicly that he suffers from a condition that causes him to experience so-called “absences.”
The Bayern star’s medication is currently being adjusted to minimize or completely eliminate the seizures. FCB announced that they had been aware of the issues for some time and that Musiala had played with this condition last season as well.
At that time, thanks to appropriate medication, there were no incidents. However, because Musiala wanted to try taking less medication, he was recently more susceptible to seizures, which led to the recent episodes. His medication is now being adjusted again before he can rejoin the squad.
This past summer, Musiala was also part of the German national team’s roster, which was eliminated in the round of 32 at the World Cup.

It has now come to light that Musiala’s teammates on the DFB team were briefed on his situation. Nadien Amiri confirmed this to BILD: “I already knew about it; after all, we were together at the World Cup. So for me, it wasn’t anything new.” Unlike his teammates, the public knew nothing about the issues until his second collapse on the field.
The important thing is that Musiala did not—and does not—face any health risks. The condition is treatable, and the goal is to completely prevent the seizures. However, this requires a bit of sensitivity when choosing the right medication. Medications also have side effects that can prevent the player from tapping into the last one or two percent of his performance potential. That’s exactly what makes Musiala’s situation a little more complicated.
