FC Barcelona are on the verge of securing the long term future of one of their most improved players as Eric Garcia edges closer to signing new contract that will keep him at the club well beyond 2026.

According to Mundo Deportivo, a preliminary agreement is already in place, with the defender expected to extend his deal until 2028 and possibly 2030 depending on final contract structuring.

A revival that changed everything

After returning from his loan spell at Girona, Garcia faced period of uncertainty but under Hansi Flick, he has transformed into a key figure.

The German coach has used him:

  1. as centre back
  2. as right back in hybrid role
  3. even as interior in midfield phases

His tactical intelligence, ball progression and calm leadership have earned him Flick’s complete trust.

In fact Garcia has now become one of Barça’s most used defenders and his performance against Athletic Club days ago only reinforced his growing importance.

PSG tried but the player chose Barca

Paris Saint Germain made formal offer to sign Garcia, driven by Luis Enrique who knows the defender well from their time together with Spain’s national team.

PSG were even preparing to move aggressively for him ahead of potential 2026 free transfer.

But Garcia according to sources close to the player, feels "completely comfortable" in the Barcelona dressing room.

Surrounded by many La Masia raised teammates and several Spain internationals, Barca "feels like home". He has now rejected PSG’s proposal and chosen to continue in Blaugrana colours.
