Sunderland face a significant summer call on their striker pool after fresh interest from Rennes in Eliezer Mayenda. Foot Mercato reports that the Ligue 1 side have set their sights on the 21-year-old as a new attacking option.
Mayenda is under contract until 2030, leaving the Black Cats in a strong negotiating position. The interest could hand the forward a pathway back to French football amid uncertainty over his future at the Stadium of Light.
He joined from Sochaux in 2023. He scored the equaliser in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley during the promotion run.
He marked his Premier League debut with a goal in the opening-day win over West Ham United. His involvement diminished as the campaign wore on, and regular football appears to be the priority for the player.
Any decision will hinge on valuation, squad planning and Sunderland’s forward options for the new season. With his age, potential and long contract, the club retain significant control, but Rennes’ interest has made this one to watch.
