Sunderland are accelerating their summer recruitment, with Florent Ghisolfi weighing bids for two Serie A targets.

Corriere dello Sport reports that representatives of AS Roma winger Matías Soulé are in the UK this weekend for talks with Sunderland and Fulham. Ghisolfi previously took the 23-year-old from Juventus to Rome, and Roma are said to be open to a sale at around £30 million to bolster their UEFA standing and reinvest before next season’s Champions League. Sunderland are in the market for a right-sided attacker after Bertrand Traoré’s exit.

Sunderland could move next week with an official bid for Sassuolo’s Bosnia international Tarik Muharemović, with Italian reports suggesting further Premier League interest and Juventus retaining a 50% sell-on after last summer’s deal. Jhon Lucumí is among alternative centre-back options as he enters the final year of his Bologna contract.

Caught Offside says Arsenal and Liverpool are assessing a move for former Sunderland loanee Lutsharel Geertruida. The Black Cats remain interested should a deal be possible, with their option to buy understood to have expired as the 25-year-old considers his next step after a strong finish that helped secure Europa League qualification.

At the start of the summer, Ghisolfi said Sunderland would prioritise quality over quantity, stressing stability and signings that fit the club’s values. He contrasted last summer’s rapid rebuild with a more precise approach this time.
