Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could turn to Enzo Fernandez as a major statement signing if he feels his position in the club’s presidential election comes under genuine threat, reports Miguel Serrano, as relayed by Defensa Central.

The Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the past, but now, the journalist has reported that this time, Perez can push through a deal if circumstances require it. 

While there is no indication that an announcement is imminent, the fact of the matter is that the Argentine’s name continues to generate excitement and the speculation comes at a time when strengthening the midfield remains one of the club’s priorities.

Fernandez linked with Real Madrid election strategy

According to the reporter, Perez has no immediate need to reveal major transfer plans as he remains confident in his position ahead of the presidential election.

However, Serrano believes the Real Madrid president has several options available should the situation change.

“Everyone takes it for granted that the president can push through the signing of Enzo Fernández because it’s a deal that depends solely on money.”

The Argentine midfielder has regularly been mentioned as a potential target for Real Madrid due to the club’s desire to add more control and creativity to the centre of the pitch.

Serrano also suggested that Enzo is among the elite players Perez has in mind when discussing footballers eager to play for Real Madrid.

“When Florentino says that people know the best players want to play for Real Madrid, I’m told he’s referring to Enzo Fernández and also to another player. 

“That said, he believes he doesn’t need to play that trump card just yet.”
