Re-elected until 2030 with 65 percent of the vote, Florentino Pérez faces an impatient Real Madrid after two seasons without a major trophy. Challenger Enrique Riquelme still polled 35 percent in a two-week campaign, exposing disquiet among socios.
José Mourinho has been hired for €15m gross and is due to be presented on Wednesday. The club said in a statement that Atlético had rejected a first €150m offer for a 26-year-old striker, pointing Madrid to a €500m release clause. Pérez considers Mourinho the figure to restore order and a collective edge.
Incoming deals are also close. Ibrahima Konaté, out of contract at Liverpool, is to sign until 2030, and Denzel Dumfries will join after his €20m clause was met at Inter Milan. Pérez has also trailed a marquee signing worth at least €150m, not Michael Olise, Harry Kane, Erling Haaland or Jeremy Doku, and not from the Premier League.
Nico Paz’s €9 million buy-back from Côme is expected to be triggered and Madrid want another centre-back, a left-back and one or two midfielders. To trim the wage bill and ease congestion, Dani Ceballos and Fran Garcia are available. Franco Mastantuono and Raul Asencio could be loaned or sold with buy-back clauses, and Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga or even Brahim Diaz will not be retained.
Pérez also plans to open up five percent of the club’s share capital to a minority investor. An extraordinary assembly of socios will be called to ratify or reject the move. Madrid remain the most valuable club at €8.2bn and the top revenue generator at €1.1bn for 2024-2025.
