Florian Thauvin is one short of 100 Ligue 1 goals, the Lens captain sitting on 99 ahead of Saturday’s trip to Strasbourg at 17:15. He could join the select group to have reached a century in the division.

He struck two penalties in a 5-2 win over Auxerre on the opening weekend, moving joint top of the scorers’ chart with Amine Gouiri (OM) and Ferran Torres (PSG). Speaking on 14 August, he said he was eager to hit the milestone, calling it a personal objective and a source of pride, according to L'Équipe.

The 33-year-old noted that few players have managed it in the competition’s history, 89 in total, and that reaching it would leave a mark on the league.

He also said he does not plan to stop there, while reflecting on the amount of work and sacrifice behind his tally.

Thauvin celebrated his first against Auxerre with Ismaelo Ganiou, and could now cap his fast start by joining Ligue 1’s century-makers in Strasbourg.
