Liverpool defender Andy Robertson (31) has leapt to the defence of teammate Florian Wirtz (22), insisting the young midfielder’s contributions should not be measured solely by statistics.

The German international, who joined Liverpool in the summer amid high expectations, produced his first two assists for the club in Wednesday’s emphatic 5-1 Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, a return to home soil that appeared to ignite his confidence.

I thought he was outstanding,” Robertson said, speaking to the media after the match. “He grew into the game, especially in the second half. People focus too much on numbers, but that can be unfair. Flo has created a lot of chances since he arrived, and tonight some finally turned into assists.”

The left-back also praised Liverpool’s midfield trio, particularly Curtis Jones, for helping Wirtz settle into the rhythm of the game, adding that “The three midfielders helped us gain momentum and keep the ball.”

While Wirtz’s adaptation to the Premier League has been slow, his display in Frankfurt hinted at the creative spark that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents. For Liverpool, the challenge now is ensuring this performance marks the beginning of sustained influence, not merely a glimpse of promise.
