Floriani Mussolini ‘to return’ to Lazio as Gattuso weighs right-back options | OneFootball

Romano Floriani Mussolini will reportedly return to Formello this summer after a loan at Cremonese, with incoming head coach Gennaro Gattuso to assess his role.

La Lazio Siamo Noi reports that Cremonese’s relegation sealed the right-back’s exit, the club opting against keeping him. He featured 28 times in Serie A, starting 12, and supplied three assists.

The 23-year-old rose through Lazio’s academy, then had spells in the lower tiers with Pescara and Juve Stabia. His form in Serie B earned a top-flight opportunity when Cremonese took him on loan with a €five million option to buy and a 50% sell-on for Lazio.

Cremonese began brightly under Davide Nicola, then suffered a mid-season slump. Marco Giampaolo arrived to steady the ship, but an 18th-place finish meant an immediate return to Serie B.

He could be added to the first-team squad at right-back. Elseid Hysaj has departed, Manuel Lazzari’s future is unclear, and Adam Marusic, who signed a new deal earlier this year, is already 33.

Whether Gattuso gives Floriani Mussolini a chance remains to be seen, after predecessors Maurizio Sarri and Marco Baroni left him out of their plans.
