Forgotten Liverpool hero finally set for RETURN from injury

Liverpool’s list of struggles this season is extensive, but their inability to score has been one of the most damning. A solution could be on the horizon, however.

Arne Slot’s side have constantly found themselves wishing they had taken their chances after being handed a narrow defeat this season.

There have been some blowout losses, recently against Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven, but a number of Liverpool’s defeats have come in close fought battles, such as the losses to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester United.

In these matches the Reds have often failed to take the chances they create, but a returning Liverpool hero could be a difference maker in the new year.

Liverpool frontline set for January boost

Summer signings Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike have battled it out for Liverpool’s no.9 spot this season and, although both have looked promising in spells, neither has managed to assert themselves as a prolific striker in this struggling Reds’ side.

Some of that may come down to the service they receive, but the two forwards could also be doing more.

Both players have also spent time out this season due to injury, and there is very little depth in the squad beyond the pair, but in January a returning star could provide Slot with a third option.

Jayden Danns, who came off the bench in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup victory over Southampton, is soon set to return to training according to Liverpool insider Lewis Steele.

Writing for the Daily Mail’s Liverpool Confidential, Steele reveals that Danns is back on grass and doing some ball work in training, adding “He is a few weeks ahead of schedule in his comeback but patience should be urged.”

Danns has faced an almost constant struggle with injury over the past two seasons, but after minor surgery on his current injury he could soon find his way back into the first team picture.

Can Danns be a difference maker?

The 19-year-old's talent has been clear to see when he has featured for the first team, with three goals in just over 200 senior minutes, but the youngster hasn’t yet been able to consistently earn himself a place in the first team squad.

The biggest obstacle for Danns has been injury, which ruined a loan spell to then-Championship side Sunderland last season.

Slot often has a place on his bench for Danns’ fellow academy players Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha though and, if the striker can stay fit, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in the Reds’ matchday squad in 2026.

If Liverpool’s struggles in front of goal do continue, having the option to bring Danns off of the bench could prove decisive and Slot will no doubt be glad to have another weapon at his disposal.
