If you thought Chelsea’s “deadline” for bids for Enzo Fernandez on Friday two weeks ago was going to end speculation – you thought wrong. In fact, today has probably seen the most concrete chatter about a potential move to Man City for the midfielder of the whole window.

Last night’s scenes of the midfielder studiously avoiding getting too involved with applauding Chelsea’s away fans post-game haven’t helped quell the impression that he’s desperate to leave the club this summer. A report from Mike McGrath at the Telegraph this afternoon reminds us all of where we stand.

Chelsea prepare to receive Man City bid for Enzo

Man City are expected to make a bid approaching Chelsea’s original £120m asking price. Then it’s over to the Blues, who are said to now want an increased sum of closer to £140m, considering the cost to replace Enzo is rising every day.

The poker game has begun – it’s going to be a fascinating few days, especially with Enzo potentially starting on Thursday. There could yet be major developments this week, and it’s all poised for a dramatic finale. Things are now pointing in the direction of Enzo going, but it’s far from a done deal just yet.
