A former member of the youth ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week opened the door to a potential reunion with the Blaugrana.
The player in question? Alejandro Grimaldo.
The name of defender Grimaldo has of course reemerged as a prominent one in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last 24 hours.
This comes after word was forthcoming that the Bayer Leverkusen star has been earmarked as a potential summer transfer target by the Barcelona brass.
Grimaldo is fresh off another stellar season in Germany, with Deco and co. viewing the 29-year-old the ideal profile of player in the case of seeking out left-back reinforcements for next season.
And if the latest comments on the part of the player himself are anything to go by, then interest appears to be very much mutual.
Speaking in an interview with Jijantes, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, on Wednesday, Grimaldo was drawn on the possibility of a summer Blaugrana reunion.
And the Spanish international went on to admit:
“Barça are the team I was with throughout my youth career and I have a lot of affection for them.”
Pressed further on the alleged interest of Atlético and Real Madrid in his signature, Grimaldo continued:
“I’m not saying no to anything; they’re all great teams, I don’t hate any of them. I’m not going to say Real Madrid is a shitty team; they’re great teams, and that’s it. But I’ve already said that I spent my entire youth career at Barça, and I have a lot of affection for them.”
