One of world football’s most recognisable managers has this week moved to reiterate the fact that he would never even consider a future on the bench at Barcelona.

The tactician in question? Mauricio Pochettino.

Argentine Pochettino is currently enjoying his first-ever stint in charge of a national team, having taken up the reins of the USA in 2024.

Prior to as much, the 53-year-old enjoyed spells with some of Europe’s leading clubs, from Tottenham Hotspur to Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

Speaking to the media this week, not for the first time, the question of whether he could one day take over at La Liga champions Barcelona was in turn put to Pochettino once more.

And the one-time central defender made use of the opportunity to reiterate his loyalty to the Blaugrana’s neighbours, Espanyol, after spending time with the Pericos as both a player and manager.

During an interview with El Chiringuito TV, ‘Poch’ explained:

“With my coaching style, I could coach Barça. Even if Barça make an offer to me, I’d never coach them. I believe that Espanyol is a much more independent and much more Catalan club than Barcelona.“
