Former Hull City winger Allahyar Sayyadmanesh put in a fine performance this past weekend to help drag Westerlo away from the bottom four. The 24-year-old Iranian, who is out of contract in the summer, grabbed his fourth goal of the season and an assist as Westerlo beat Antwerp 2-0 away from home.

On a snowy weekend in Belgian football, Sayyadmanesh was key in Westerlo’s victory and extending the gap between themselves and the bottom four to three points. The side remain in with an outside chance of making the top six. With five games to go, Westerlo are only five pints behind KV Mechelen in fifth, such is the congested nature of the Pro League this season.

For Sayyadmanesh, this is his third season with the club since joining from Hull City during the 2023/2024 season. Sayyadmanesh had joined Hull City during the 2021/2022 season from Zorya in Ukrainian football. The winger had scored nine goals and provided four assists for Zorya in 24 games to earn the move to Hull City. However, he struggled to have a major impact for the English club. In 40 games for Hull City the Iranian international scored three goals and provided just two assists. He has fared much better for Westerlo. In 75 appearances for the Belgian side he has 11 goals and nine assists.
