Paulo Dybala came close to leaving AS Roma at the end of last season, and one of the options available to him was a return to Juventus, according to a report on Calciomercato. The Argentine forward spent the period between 2015 and 2022 on the Bianconeri’s books and was one of their best players during that time.
Dybala has since become an important figure at Roma. He is such a popular idol in the capital that supporters did not want him to leave when it appeared he would depart during the previous transfer window. However, the forward decided to remain and accepted a significant reduction in wages by signing an incentivised contract.
A return to Turin was also possible, but Dybala ultimately rejected the opportunity. Juventus wanted to add him to their squad because Luciano Spalletti believed that the attacker could still contribute to his team.
Dybala preferred to continue his career in Rome and may still be unhappy with the way Juventus ended his time at the club. The Argentine appears to have no desire to return to Turin at present, despite his successful history with the Bianconeri.
His decision also reflects the strong relationship he has built with Roma supporters. Remaining in the capital allowed him to continue playing for a club where he feels valued, while his new contract provided an incentive based on his performances.
Juventus may have viewed Dybala as an experienced option who could contribute immediately, but the player was not convinced that a return would be right for him. His feelings about his departure from the club appear to have influenced his decision.

Juventus may also have been reluctant to make a major commitment to Dybala. The Bianconeri have invested in younger attackers who can provide long-term value, whereas the Argentine would represent a shorter-term solution.
Although Spalletti believed Dybala could still perform at a high level, Juventus are attempting to build a squad for the future. That strategy may explain why their interest did not progress further.
Dybala will now remain at Roma, where he is still regarded as a key player and an important figure among the supporters. Juventus, meanwhile, will continue prioritising younger forwards as they look to develop a team capable of competing for major honours over many seasons.
