Former Liverpool Star Questions Salah's Goal Output Amid New Competition
Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann's cast doubt on Mohamed Salah’s ability to maintain his scoring record following the arrival of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in record 125m sterling pound deal.
Hamann told Liverpool Echo that Salah’s advancing age could affect his output.
"He found it harder to score from open play in the 2nd half of last season. At 33, very few players score regularly in the Premier League" he said citing Robert Lewandowski & Harry Kane as rare exceptions.
Liverpool’s frontline has been reshaped with Isak and German playmaker Florian Wirtz who cost £116m.
Hamann believes this may shift Salah’s role and reduce his centrality in attack.
Salah's 3 goal and 3 assist in 9 games so far. But Hamann argued that Liverpool’s dynamics have changed:
"In the past, Salah was the one they always looked for. Now with Wirtz & Isak, others will take the spotlight"
Hamann concluded that while the new signings may open up space for Salah, they're unlikely to boost his goal numbers significantly.
