According to Fabrizio Romano, newly-promoted Como are working on signing former Manchester United defender Raphaël Varane (31).

Varane is a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Manchester United. He is therefore free to discuss a contract with another club. Romano understands that Como, who recently secured promotion to Serie A, are in talks to sign the former France international, who has now arrived in the city to have further talks.

He will travel to Italy in order to discuss the move, and terms, with Como manager Cesc Fabregas. Varane is considered a “dream target” for the Serie A side, who are looking to add experience to their squad. However, it won’t be simple to pull off a move with other clubs reportedly interested.

Varane is also a dream target for RC Lens. The Frenchman began his career at the Ligue 1 side before making the move to Real Madrid at a young age, however, there is now an interest in repatriating him. Given the new austere regime imposed at the club, a deal could prove difficult to pull off.
