TeamTalk reports that Igor Tudor is expected to leave his interim role at Tottenham by mutual consent after weeks of internal discussions, with an agreement that a defeat to Nottingham Forest would trigger change, and adds that he is ready to step away following the death of his father Mario, while Adi Hutter and former Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton are on a shortlist seen as viable options.
The former Juventus and Croatia defender took charge after Thomas Frank’s departure last month. His first match ended in a 4-1 home loss to Arsenal. He has yet to win in five league games, the only point coming in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
Spurs did beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, but went out after a 5-2 first-leg defeat.
They now sit one point and one place above the Premier League relegation zone.
Hughton played more than 300 times for Spurs and spent 14 years as reserve manager, first-team coach, caretaker and assistant. He left in February 2008 for Newcastle, later taking the job permanently after an interim spell. He remains the last manager to lead Newcastle to a home Tyne-Wear derby win, achieved in October 2010.
If Spurs make a change, the new interim’s first game would be at Sunderland on Sunday, April 12 as the Black Cats chase Europe and seek to deepen their visitors’ relegation concerns.
