Former Real Madrid midfielder Wesley Sneijder has launched a fierce criticism of Barcelona following the club’s recent La Liga title celebrations.

Barcelona’s open-top bus parade attracted huge crowds across the city after Hansi Flick guided the club to another league triumph.

The celebrations quickly went viral on social media, with fans and players enjoying the moment after reclaiming domestic supremacy.

However, not everyone was impressed by the scenes coming out of Catalonia.

What was said?

Sneijder, in particular, openly questioned the scale of Barcelona’s celebrations and suggested the club’s standards have dropped significantly compared to previous generations.

The former midfielder, who spent years involved in one of football’s fiercest rivalries during his time in Spain, argued that Barcelona are celebrating domestic success too heavily despite continuing to disappoint regularly in European competition.

“This is a club that hasn’t won the Champions League in over 10 years, that fails in Europe and is humiliated every other season, and then celebrates league titles as if they’d conquered football all over again.”

Sneijder also addressed the growing excitement surrounding Lamine Yamal and the comparisons some Barcelona supporters have started making between the teenager and Cristiano Ronaldo.

While acknowledging the extraordinary talent of the young winger, the former Real Madrid midfielder dismissed the idea of placing Yamal alongside Ronaldo at this stage of his career.

“Barcelona fans comparing an 18-year-old to Cristiano Ronaldo over league titles tells you everything about how low standards have fallen at that club.”

The criticism continued as Sneijder defended Ronaldo’s legacy and highlighted the Portuguese’s achievements across multiple leagues and competitions over nearly two decades at the highest level.

“Cristiano Ronaldo dominated England, Spain, Italy and Europe for almost 20 years.

“Barcelona fans should be more concerned with getting through Champions League rounds before trying to troll one of the best players in history.”
