Former Real Madrid teammate sends message to Cristiano Ronaldo amid Portugal drama | OneFootball

Ex-Real Madrid star Marcelo has on Thursday taken to social media, to send what appears to be a message of support the way of Blancos legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

This of course comes fresh off nothing short of a chaotic 24 hours for the veteran frontman…

After listening to the words of Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus during a press conference on Wednesday, in response to his status as an unused substitute against Norway, Ronaldo made the call to depart national team duty with immediate effect.

The 41-year-old from here took to social media, to assure that ‘in due time, I will tell the truth to all Portuguese people about the reasons that motivated my departure from the national team’.

Ronaldo’s actions have since been met with something of a mixed response across the world of football, with some having made clear their disillusionment with such behaviour at this point in his iconic career.

Others, though, have thrown their full backing behind the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, adamant that he will ultimately be vindicated.

And as alluded to above, on Thursday, one such high-profile backer has sent a message the way of his former teammate. Taking to his official Instagram account, Marcelo – who is known to have shared a close friendship with Ronaldo in Spain’s capital – unveiled a photo of the pair embracing, accompanied by the caption:

‘What can I say, Cristiano Ronaldo’
