Charlton Athletic will be hoping they can improve their squad in January as they look to push up the league under new manager Dean Holden.
Holden arrived in December and managed to grab his first win as boss against Portsmouth earlier this week as he hopes that acts as a launch pad for better form.
With Andy Scott arriving at The Valley as Charlton’s technical director at the same time as Holden, many will be hoping it sparks an influx of quality that will improve the side.
With Charlton currently sitting in 17th in League One, more players are needed but that could also spell the end for some, with outgoings a possibility as well with Holden wanting to shape the squad in his mould.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at the latest transfer news at the Valley right now.

Macauley Bonne linked with a return
Former Addicks striker Macauley Bonne has been linked with a return to Charlton following his release from QPR this week.
Bonne played for Charlton during the 19/20 season and scored 11 goals in 33 games as they were relegation from the Championship before making a big money move to QPR in 2020.
His move to Loftus Road didn’t go well though having scored just three goals in 44 appearances, as well as spending a season on loan at Ipswich Town last year, where he notched 12 goals in 43 games.
His release from QPR has inevitably led to interest and speculation, with Charlton reportedly one of the clubs looking to recruit the experienced striker, as they look to compete with Sheffield Wednesday for his signature.
Forster-Caskey departs
Jake Forster-Caskey left Charlton to join Stevenage this week as Dean Holden starts to wield the axe as he looks to shape his squad.
The 28-year-old hasn’t started a game this season having spent a significant amount of time in the treatment following a cruciate ligament injury in 2021.
Forster-Caskey arrived at The Valley in 2017 from Brighton and has departed after six years and 128 appearances.
Forster-Caskey was a very popular player amongst the supporters, displaying quality above League One level on numerous occasions. There’s a good chance that he will return to League One next season, with Stevenage currently boasting a 12-point cushion inside the automatic promotion places in League Two.
With the January transfer window still in the early stages, clubs are still formulating their plans for a pivotal month.
The refreshing news however from Charlton is that they’re looking to retain their best players whilst adding to their squad according to technical director Andy Scott.
With owner Thomas Sandgaard being accused of not backing former manager Ben Garner, it will be a surprise to see the Addicks not move for signings in January, especially with their current 17th place in League One.
Speaking to club media at the time of his arrival, Scott said: “Primarily the idea is that we want to bring players in. That is going to be the biggest concern and the biggest workload that we’re going to do is bring players in.
“Once we’ve done that and we’ve brought in the right players we can assess the squad properly. See which players aren’t going to contribute as much as they want to or we want them to.”
Whilst it can’t be guaranteed that the club will be able to turn down big money bids for their best players should they come in, the focus on bringing players into the squad will reassure supporters that the club may finally be moving in the right direction.
