Former Terrão talent recalls Palmeiras sacking for being a Corinthians fan

Discovered in Corinthians’ youth academy, Ewerthon has three titles with Timão on his resume. Even though he stood out from a young age, he went to Europe early and later returned to Brazil to play for Palmeiras, but was released by the Barra Funda club due to his history with Timão.

“My intention was to return to Corinthians, but the club only reached out to me after I had already signed with Palmeiras. I even joke with Andrés (Sanchez, the president at the time) about this. I played the 2011 season at the club (Palmeiras) and then was let go with the justification that I was a Corinthians fan. Because I came from Corinthians… That was the justification, ‘a marriage that didn’t work out’”, said the former player on the Denílson Show podcast.

Promoted at 17 years old, in 1998, Ewerthon had a good trajectory, but couldn’t establish himself in Corinthians’ first team due to the historic squad the club had at the time. In total, he played 74 matches and scored 21 goals wearing the Corinthians shirt.

“I started at Roque Moraes’ soccer school and was called up by Palmeiras, but ended up going to Corinthians. I arrived at the club while they were holding tryouts at Terrão, played a little and was immediately approved. After that, I went through all the categories until I reached the professional team”, recalled the former striker.

Besides Corinthians, Rio Branco – where he spent a season on loan – and Palmeiras, Ewerthon also played for Borussia Dortmund-GER, where he became an idol, Real Zaragoza-ESP, Stuttgart-GER, Espanyol-ESP, Terek Grozny-RUS, Al Ahli-QAT, América-MG, and retired at Atlético Sorocaba in 2014.
