Wolves visit West Ham next Friday after a long lay-off, knowing near-perfection is needed in the weeks ahead. According to ExpressAndStar.com, Karl Henry, David Jones and Matt Jarvis have revisited the 2010 Upton Park win, one of few bright East London memories.

Then it was a six-pointer, Wolves 16th and four clear of danger, West Ham 17th and one back.

Wolves imposed themselves as Kevin Foley hit the bar before Kevin Doyle dispossessed James Tomkins and finished from a tight angle. Scott Parker struck the inside of a post and Marcus Hahnemann denied his follow-up to protect the lead at half-time.

After the break Jones threaded in Ronald Zubar to score on 58 minutes, then released Jarvis to finish three minutes later, before a late home consolation confirmed a 3-1 away win. Jones later credited assistant Terry Connor’s drills for the patterns behind both goals.

The result completed seven points from Burnley, Aston Villa and West Ham in 10 days under Mick McCarthy, a burst that all but sealed survival in year one back. Wins in this fixture have been scarce, only four in 25 away since 1969, including two under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Now the picture is starker, with Wolves 13 points adrift and only seven matches left after 25 days without a game. Jarvis sees respite benefits and a chance to shape the relegation fight, while Henry views the pause as time for Rob Edwards to embed ideas.
